Pre-Stressed Composite Riser Tubes Transfer Loads to Metal Fittings

This technology mates load-bearing composite tubes to the metal fittings that support them, thus allowing composites to be used in applications currently requiring steel risers. The composites are geometrically pre-stressed during construction and mated to their metal fittings in a way that eliminates lateral and axial fatigue. The technology has additional application where any composite tube must join any metal fitting in a way that eliminates movement at the joint.

This fastener-locking technology uses a patented vibration-proof positive-locking mechanism that uses a physical barrier to prevent nut loosening. The coupling mechanism acts as the physical stop, whereby the nut is rotationally fixed relative to the bolt to inhibit rotation of the nut. It does not require special tools, has a rattle-free locking mechanism, and can be applied universally to a variety of fastening applications.
